Skilled Migration


General Skilled Migration – It is point based migration process. Applicants have to accumulate at least 60 points on DIBP point calculator based on Age, Education, Work Experience and English Language Proficiency to apply for GSM. The main subclasses of visa which falls under GSM are:

  • General Skilled Visa (Independent) (Subclass 189): Only visa applicants whose occupation falls under MLTSSL occupation list can apply for subclass 189 visa. This is a permanant visa and visa holders of this subclass can live and work anywhere in Australia.
  • General Skilled Visa (Nominated) (Subclass 190): States nominate the applicant who hold a special skill which is in shortage in that particular state and visa applicant can claim 5 extra points towards GSM Visa calculator if get nominated. This is a permanent visa and visa applicant must be nominated by an Australian state or territory.
  • General Skilled Regional Visa (Nominated) (Subclass 489): Visa applicant can be nominated by an Australian State/Territory to live and work in the regional Australia or sponsored by an eligible relative, who live in a Designated area. This is a provisional visa which can lead to the Permanent Residency providing the visa conditions are met.
  • Temporary Graduate skilled Visa (Subclass 485): This visa subclass is for the recent graduates from Australian education providers in Australia. This visa lets the applicant live, study or work for up to 4 years in Australia. This visa subclass has two streams:
    1. Graduate Work stream
    2. Post-Study Work stream
  • Skilled-Recognised Graduate Visa (Subclass 476): This visa subclass is for Engineering graduates who have finished their bachelors or higher from recognised institution in last 24 months. This visa allows the applicants to live and work in Australia up to 18 months.
  • Skilled Independent (New Zealand stream) (Subclass 189): This is permanent Visa for eligible New Zealand citizens (Subclass 444 holders), who have shown a commitment and made contribution towards Australia.
